Qatar Grand Prix: preview
With a 30-point lead over Ferrari, McLaren are within touching distance of their first constructors' title since 1998, but it's not done yet. After their one-two finish in yesterday's Sprint, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris took their eye off the ball in Qualifying, and will start from 3rd and 4th on the grid for today's Qatar Grand Prix.
Crucially, they're both starting ahead of the Ferrari duo. George Russell is on pole, where he'll have newly crowned drivers' championship Max Verstappen on his shoulder. The Dutchman actually went fastest in Qualifying, but was bumped down a spot for impeding the Mercedes man.
With Sergio Perez way back in 9th, Red Bull's chances of retaining the constructors' title are minuscule, but Ferrari are still firmly in the fight. Starting from 5th and 7th respectively, however, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have some ground to make up. There are 88 points still on the table, but if McLaren outscore them by 15 points in Lusail, the title will almost certainly be theirs.
