Now available are the new X2 floorstanding speakers from British manufacturer Kudos Audio. Selling for £1350 a pair in standard finishes, they use custom-made SEAS drive units and a port exiting through the base of the cabinet, using their plinths to provide optimal reflex loading.
The speakers use a 25mm fabric dome tweeeter and a a 15cm coated paper cone mid/bass driver with a cast chassis for optimal rigidity. The crossover uses bespoke components from Clarity Caps and Volt, and the speakers have an in-room frequency response of 30Hz-25kHz.
The sensitivity is 86.5dB/W/m and the nominal impedance 8ohms (6ohm minimum), and the X2s are designed for use with amplifiers of up to 150W.
The cabinets are built from 18mm high density fibreboard, which the Stockton-on-Tees-based company says was chosen for minimal coloration and smear, and are 16.6cm wide, 20.6cm deep and 78cm tall.
They come in real wood veneers, with a choice of seven finishes available: black, cherry, maple, oak, rosenut, walnut and satin white.
