Monitor Audio has announced the release of the latest generation of its long-running Silver Series of loudspeakers. The Silver Series 8G comprises seven new models designed for both stereo and surround sound systems, with the company stating that the new range is “as potent as it is flexible”.

Promising to be Monitor Audio’s most capable Silver series yet, the range has been updated to deliver more “clarity, control and emotional impact than ever before”.

Topping the range are the Silver 500 8G floorstanding speakers, followed by the Silver 300 8G floorstanders, and the Silver 100 8G and Silver 50 8G standmounters. For home cinema systems, there are a Silver Centre 8G and Silver AMS 8G Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. Unlike the previous Silver Series 7G range which originally launched in 2021, the 8G series also features a wall-mountable model, the Silver On-Wall 8G.

All speakers in the 8G range use Monitor Audio’s proprietary Ceramic-Coated Aluminium / Magnesium (C-CAM) driver material, which promises to be both lightweight and rigid. Notably, the mid/bass drivers of the Silver Series 8G feature an updated rigid surface technology (RST III), which sees the speaker cone’s geometry altered to increase structural rigidity while minimising unwanted resonances.

Monitor Audio has also updated its C-CAM gold dome tweeter for the 8G series, tweaking a design that has been used by the company since 1982. The latest-generation tweeter features a vented rear chamber, a new shorting ring (for reduced distortion and an extended high-frequency response), and the same Uniform Dispersion (UD) Waveguide II as seen on the Silver Series 7G.

The crossover network has also been updated throughout the 8G range. According to Monitor Audio, the Silver 8G speakers feature “higher quality components throughout” with the new crossover network ensuring “a cleaner, more transparent signal path for tighter driver integration and a more coherent soundstage”.

All speakers use through-bolt driver bracing, which allows the drive units to be securely braced to the rear of the cabinets and tightened to a user-specific torque, to reduce unwanted driver resonances and improve structural rigidity. The cabinets also feature updated bass-reflex ports with an enlarged diameter and flared geometry to prevent port chuffing.

The new Monitor Audio Silver Series 8G are available from this month in three finishes: High Gloss Black, Satin White or European Walnut. The European Walnut veneer is made from real, sustainably sourced timber, to help achieve the “rich grain and colour of exotic woods” without harvesting rare or endangered trees.

Prices are as follows:

- Silver 500 8G: £2650 / €3100 / $3300 (per pair)

- Silver 300 8G: £2000.00 / €2400.00 / $2600.00 (per pair)

- Silver 100 8G: £1500.00 / €1800.00 / $2000.00 (per pair)

- Silver 50 8G: £800.00 / €1000.00 / $1050.00 (per pair)

- Silver On-Wall 8G: £450.00 / €550.00 / $575.00 (each)

- Silver Centre 8G: £800.00 / €1000.00 / $1050.00 (each)

- Silver AMS 8G: £900.00 / €1100.00 / $1200.00 (per pair)

The new Silver Series 8G has seen a jump in price between the two generations, with an increase of as much as £925 on its flagship model. With such hikes across the range, there’s one question on our minds: will the extra expense prove worthwhile?
