When is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is set to take place on Tuesday July 17th, with the first Amazon Prime deals set to be released at midday on Monday 16th.

It wouldn't be an online sale if there weren't some special offers leaked in advance so we would be seriously surprised if Amazon doesn't sneak out some extra deals to build the excitement in the week before the big day.

Naturally, Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa had all the news on Prime Day. Ask, “Alexa, when is Prime Day”, and you will get all the details on this year's shopping extravaganza. Or you could just keep reading this very page...

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon's take on Black Friday. While every online retailer gets involved in the now annual Black Friday bargain bun fight, Prime Day is all about Amazon.

The special day of deals is a members-only affair, so you'll need to be a Prime member to take advantage of the offers. Thanks to Amazon's 30-day Prime free trial, there is always the option to sign-up, bag a few bargains, and then cancel your membership.

Prime members are then able to take advantage of limited time only 'Lightning deals' as well as broader Prime Day deals across the site.

Last year Amazon promised a new deal every five minutes, with the deals dropping on the website and on the Amazon app (which gave members an early heads-up on the deals).

This year Prime Day will be running in the UK, US, Spain, Mexico, Japan, India, Italy, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia, Singapore, Netherlands and Luxembourg.

And for the first time, Prime Day will also run offline - with savings coming to Whole Foods Market stores across London on the day.

What Prime Day deals can we expect?

You should expect discounts on the full range of Amazon tech products including (deep breath) the Amazon Echo 2Amazon Echo DotAmazon Echo PlusEcho Spot, the Fire TV Stick with Alexa, the Fire TV 4K and Fire HD tablets. Not to mention cheap deals on plenty of other products on the site.

But are the Amazon Prime Deals actually any good? Well, the 2017 highlights included up to 46% off Amazon devices, up to 30% off powered laptops and 30% off an LG 4K Ultra HD TV. If you're thinking of buying an Echo speaker, it's certain to be a good time to pick one up.

We'll be sorting through all the deals to pick out the best, so keep your eyes on our round-up page for the best Amazon Prime Day UK deals as they're released and you can sign-up for our weekly deals newsletter to get our pick of the bargains straight to your inbox.

Perhaps, but I've got my Chromecast now and don't feel the desire to waste more cash on a Fire thingy, just be cause Amazon have decided to work with a closed system.  I respect the open source approach more than Amazon who are abusing their dominance in the streaming market to flog dongles.

I've got prime membership

I've got prime membership because you get free next day delivery on Amazon. Always saw the streaming service as a bonus not the main reason for having prime.

What an anticlimax!

After all the fanfare I was expecting something to equal/better Black Friday.  Personally I found the whole thing very disappointing, even more so as a long time Prime member, with very few worthwhile deals to be had.  Next time Amazon, spend less on the marketing and more on the deals!

Yep...

...you're probably right.
