New model allows simple one-touch recording, has 160GB hard drive and super-fast copying

New from LG is the RHT497H Freeview+ DVD/HDD recorder. The new model, which is now available at around £200, combines Freeview reception with recording onto either blank DVD media or its internal 160GB hard drive.

There's the usual programmable timer recording, plus one-touch 'Advanced Time Shift', allowing live TV to be paused or rewound, and the machine can copy an hour of TV between the hard drive and a recordable DVD, or vice versa, in just 27 seconds.

The hard drive will give over 450 hours of recording the hard disk at its lowest quality setting, and there's an eight-day EPG with series link for unattended recordings.

It can work with all kinds of blank DVD media, will also play back DivX movie files, and also has both a DV input for camcorders and a USB socket for memory keys.

Finally, LG's Simplink system allows a single remote handset to control the recorder, LG TVs and the company's home cinema systems, using HDMI CEC commands.
