As someone who tests home cinema products for a living, I have used countless 4K Blu-ray discs to challenge picture and sound quality on a range of different products. That includes some of the cheapest projectors we have tested (the Xgimi Vibe One, for example) and premium all-in-one sound systems such as the Focal Mu-so Hekla.
There are some discs that I turn to specifically for their unique specifications. Pan, for instance, is a pretty tedious watch, but it is mastered to a whopping 4000 nits, which makes it a great test of brightness.
But the majority of movies I use in the test room are films I would gladly turn on in my living room and watch all the way through. Sadly, I can't justify that when testing (cue the tears and sorrow).
So which 4K Blu-rays am I recommending this Amazon Prime Day?
There are almost too many to choose from, but I have managed to whittle my top picks down to a slender offering of six. Not only will these movies provide a gripping viewing experience, but they will also challenge your home cinema system, whether that’s with its picture, sound or both.
All of the 4K discs on this list are included in the 3 for £50 deal at HMV, which saves you about £10, although that is dependent on which movies you choose. As well as the movies below, I heartily recommend adding our all-time favourites Blade Runner 2049 and Dune: Part Two to your collection if you have not already.

Rife with big explosions and flashy car chases, No Time To Die is a brilliant test for both picture and sound. During a tense scene where Daniel Craig's Bond speeds along the tiny cobbled Italian roads, the squeal of tyres and the sound of ricocheting bullets should create an immersive viewing experience with the right system.
I have been waiting a cool three years for the final installation of the Spider-Verse trilogy to hit the big screen; but that anticipation has been helped by my regular re-visits to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. That’s partly thanks to its energetic score, which will keep your toes tapping and your heart racing.
Robert Egger’s Nosferatu is a creepy gothic retelling that is not for the faint of heart. The striking visuals make for a great test of black depth, and the chilling score should challenge your system’s handling of dynamics during tense scenes.
The opening of F1 The Movie alone proves its chops as a great test of your Dolby Atmos sound system. As our protagonist readies himself for a race, we are thrown into the scene with the announcer’s voice booming around us and fireworks popping with an excellent display of Atmos height effects.
Nothing beats the thrill of seeing Tom Cruise clinging to a tiny plane for dear life in glorious 4K. Not only is the film a hair-raising watch from start to finish, but it’s also a great test of your TV or projector’s motion handling, with plenty of fast-paced action scenes.
One of our favourite aspects of Interstellar when it comes to testing is its stunning soundtrack. If your system has the reserves of power, control and insight to do tracks such as Coward or Cornfield Chase justice, you will be swept off your feet.
