I've recently upgrade AV receiver Onkyo TX-DS595 with Marantz SR8001. My speakers are Mission M74, M7C and M7DS, and I think M7C is the weakest part. Can I replace M7C with M3C2 (no more M7C2) regarding tonal balance of sound? Better solutions?

Can't help feeling an M3C2 would be a step down from an M7C. No chance of finding a used or ex-dem M7C2?

My real concern is that the M3C2 (or indeed the current M3C2i) might sound a little lightweight beside the M74s

I can't find M7C2 here in Croatia. What do you think about M6Ci instead?  Unfortunately i can't upgrade all my speakers.

Yes, that should give a closer match.
