I've found that my impressions of leanness are mostly influenced by what I've been listening to before the new gear. If you give yourself a week to get adjusted and play as much music as possible, and then conclude it's still lean, then you know for sure. But during that week, play only the 550 and Novo.

Very interesting. Was pretty much sold on the AKG K550s... until reading this.
Think I need to try them out before buying - along with the ATH-M50s.
Hmm.
Question: Would an Fiio F7 bring out the best in both/either of these? Or would you recommend something more expensive? The F7 is in a good price range, but I'd go a bit higher if the sound was markedly improved. My listening consists of laptop and iPod only.
