Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...?

I've read this several times now, and I still can't work out the twisted corporate logic involved. See what you think...

"TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Sony Corp. said Wednesday that it will restructure its network services operations by absorbing the business into the parent company.

The company's network services operations are currently a part of its game unit Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

The reorganization will proceed in three stages; Sony Computer Entertainment will change its name to SNE Platform, but its key game console and software operations will then be split off to a new company called Sony Computer Entertainment.

"Sony will then absorb SNE Platform effective April 1."

Huh????

Comments

Maybe the key is in the date given?!

I'll abreviate Sony's network services operations as NSO.

- NSO is currently in SCEI

- SCEI will be split in SCE and SNE Platform

- NSO will be in SNE Platform

- SNE Platform will be absorbed by the parent company Sony.

Thus the game console and software operations formerly in SCEI will remain the only seperate entity.

As April 1 is the first day of the fiscal/business year for most companies in Japan and a lot of corporate activity (appointment of new directors, etc. etc.) takes place as of April 1 I'm doubting an April fools prank.

Ah yes, that makes perfect sense now...
