Samsung develops its first MP3 player compatible with BBC iPlayer

Samsung Q1

The Samsung Q1 Diamond allows users to download programmes from the iPlayer and view them on the portable's 2.4in, 320 x 240 VGA screen. Battery life for video replay is said to be up to four hours, while for music it's 30 hours.

It comes in black, weighs 61g and supports MP3, WMA, Ogg and Flac audio files as well as WMV and MPEG4 video. You can choose between 4, 8 and 16GB models, costing £60, £80 and £110 respectively.

Additional features include FM radio, voice recording and Samsung's DNSe sound enhancement technology which analyses the music being played and applies the "appropriate" EQ effect.

The Samsung Q1 Diamond will be available in stores from Monday, October 13th.

Also new from Samsung is the U4 Litmus, a USB-style, audio-only player that replaces the U3. It has a high-gloss finish in rose, purple or blue and comes in 2GB (£30) or 4GB (£40) sizes.

The U4 can handle MP3, WMA and Ogg audio files, has an FM radio and voice recorder and a claimed battery life of up to 16 hours.
