Rejoice! Sony has finally updated its budget five-star wireless headphones range.
This announcement includes the new Sony WH-CH530, available now for £50, which are just about to land in our listening rooms for the full What Hi-Fi? review treatment.
However, if you can't wait, we're also excited to announce that its five-star predecessors, the WH-CH520, have had their price crash.
Specifically, the WH-CH520 are back down to their lowest price of £25 at EE, officially half the price of their successors.
We're yet to review the WH-CH530, but it's worth bearing in mind that Sony claims they come with five hours more battery life, as well as a sonic boost thanks to improved processing and algorithms.
However, if you're after value, it's hard to argue with the WH-CH520, especially with its £25 price tag.
You'll want to temper your expectations, as these were budget headphones even at full price, but we were still mightily impressed by how much Sony was able to fit in.
They're full of features, with Bluetooth Multipoint letting you connect to multiple devices wirelessly and seamlessly switch between them, voice assistants are supported, they have on-earcup controls and you can fine-tune the sound using Sony's excellent Headphones Connect app.
However, what impressed us most was the sound quality at this level. They produce an even-handed, nicely balanced sound with a solid, deep bass response and an informative and eloquent midrange.
"The low end they generate is solid, deep and properly controlled at the leading edges, so the WH-CH520 express rhythms confidently," our Sony WH-CH520 review reads. "They hit reasonably hard, and keep bass firmly in its lane where it can’t interfere with the midrange activity above."
The WH-CH530 add a further five hours, but the CH-520 still boast a phenomenal 50 hours of battery life. That's enough to fly to Australia and back!
The design is a bit plasticky, as you might expect from this price level, but they're solidly built, and at 147g they're lightweight for long travels or gym sessions.
Successor or not, the Sony WH-CH520 are incredible headphones now at an incredible price of £25 at EE. If you're after a budget pair, the WH-CH520 won't be beaten at this price and are well worth picking up before they inevitably start leaving store shelves.
