As I write this, testing is well underway for the 2026 What Hi-Fi? Awards, with a battle royale taking place between all sorts of hi-fi and home cinema equipment.
One of the ultra-short-throw (UST) projectors we reviewed for Awards consideration was the Hisense PX4 Pro. Now I can’t tell you if it has won an Award just yet, but I can reveal that it earned the full five stars from our rigorous testers.

It's facing some tough competition now, but Hisense has long been a dominant force in the UST projector space. The Hisense PX3 Pro was even a What Hi-Fi? Award winner, so we had high hopes for its successor.
And we weren’t disappointed. Hisense has made several worthy improvements, offering deeper blacks, more colour volume and a holistically improved, more three-dimensional-looking image during a viewing of Civil War.
“The work Hisense has done improving its PX line over the past two years is immediately apparent, and the PX4 Pro leaves a strong impression,” our Hisense PX4 Pro review reads.
“Characters’ faces look more realistic, featuring more natural highlights and deeper shadows. As they move through a burning forest, the extra brightness helps the PX4 shine; the flames possess hues of red and orange that are entirely missing on the PX3.”
Sound is also solid given the PX4 Pro’s humble size. The little box throws audio around the room with impressive height effects that are missing from most USTs. It’s no match for a dedicated sound system, but impressive by UST projector standards.
As you can probably tell from the free controller and subscription, the PX4 Pro has quite the focus on gaming. Hisense has made a big deal of the 1080p/240Hz performance, with VRR and ALLM supported also. However, 4K/120Hz gaming is off the menu, as the two HDMI 2.1 sockets are limited to 60Hz at 4K resolution.
All four key HDR formats – Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG – are on board, as well as dedicated Filmmaker Mode, IMAX Enhanced certification and Active 3D content picture modes.
Hisense’s Vidaa OS comes loaded with nearly all the apps you need. Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Freely are all on board, with only the more specialist streamers missing.
We have a few minor quibbles, but the Hisense PX4 Pro sits in a gap between entry-level and flagship USTs and is a great choice for movie fans who can’t quite stretch their budget to the top tiers of the market. It’s even better value, of course, with £100 cashback at AV.com and a free Xbox controller.
