Monte Carlo's narrow streets almost certainly played a part, however small, in the FIA's decision to trim the cars down for 2026. While it's fair to say that the ruling body's reforms haven't been universally well-received, they may yet help to revive F1's under-fire jewel.

Monaco Grand Prix 2026 Preview

Wet weather and bad decisions have been essential to a good Monaco GP experience for many years now, but it's looking like wall-to-wall sunshine this weekend. What we could get, however, is a drastically different race to anything we've seen so far this season.

Raw pace is one of the reasons Mercedes have won every Grand Prix so far, Kimi Antonelli scoring four victories from five races to lead George Russell by 43 points. But that straight-line speed is of limited use in the Principality. The Ferraris and McLarens, meanwhile, have looked a little more nimble in the corners.

Even if overtaking proves a touch easier than normal this weekend, we're still expecting Qualifying to be absolutely pivotal. And this season that brings extra complications.

Road congestion is a fixture of Monaco GP Qualifying, particularly in Q1 when all of the cars are out on track. Cadillac's entry as F1's 11th team places another two vehicles on an already jammed circuit. Setting off on a flying lap at the wrong moment on Saturday could have disastrous consequences for some of the drivers.
