NEWS: The Departed scores 100,000 high-definition disc sales

Warner Home Video's HD release of Martin Scorsese's The Departed, available on both HD-DVD/DVD combo disc and Blu-ray, has become the first title to clock up 100,000 high-definition disc sales. The movie, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio (above) and Jack Nicholson, was released on the HD disc formats on the same day as the standard DVD version.

WHV also says it has the number two spot in HD disc sales, with Superman Returns, while Batman Begins, Happy Feet and Goodfellas are all in the top ten sales chart; It sees this as testimony to the wisdom of its decision to cover all the bases, releasing titles on both Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Sony Pictures had previously announced that Casino Royale on Blu-ray was the first HD title to ship over 100,000 copies: it's thought 140,000 copies have now been shipped and over 80,000 sold, making it the biggest single-format seller.
