The only ones I really regret

The only ones I really regret selling were the Rega R7s, mainly as they dont come up often and I would have loved to try them with some better amplification. I also sold them as I thought I needed the money at the time, in retrospect I did not as much as I thought.

Ones I regret buying, not really. Did not get on with the KEF XQ1s, much prefered the Rega R3s I had at the time, and the Klipsch Heresy IIs just did not work in my room.

I have 3-4 sets of speakers at the moment, and various speaker drivers in preperation for the next project.

You do know you're nuts!.......but in a very good eccentric way, of course. Wink

Its all fun, most were sold for the next pair and I was moving house most years (various houses at University then rented houses for a few years) so the room was always changing, and I have quite pleased I have ticked off quite a few speakers from my long term to do list like the 'classics':

KEF 104/2, Acoustic Energy AE2, Klipsch Heresy, Magnepan MMG to name a couple.

If more people did that for fun, there would be less trouble in the world.

RE: What speakers have you owned?

A splendidly bonkers thread.

I can't be bothered to sell stuff, so all of these are still in use, except the dreadful KEFs.

AR18s (1977: loved them)

Mission 760i (didn't)

KEF iQ5 (put me off hi-fi altogether for a while)

Linn Unik (kitchen speakers)

Musical Technology Kestrel (obscure and quite good)

Sonus faber Venere 1.5 (lovely)

Neat Iota (sweet)

Sonus faber Cremona Auditor M (gorgeous)

Adam ARTist 3 (pretty good for actives Wink )

RE: What speakers have you owned?

Started off with some Warfdales in the 80's

some obscure make called Tensai... awful

Heybrook HB1... lovely

Linn Index... dull

B&W CM2... big improvement

ProAc Studio130... excellent

ATC SCM40... glad I tried them

Harbeth SHL5... wonderful!

RE: What speakers have you owned?

Aiwa sound system speakers

Kenwood surround system speakers

B&W DM601

B&W DM602.5

Mission 782 3-way

Von Schweikert VR1

Spendor SA1

Quad 21L2 - still own

Castle Richmond II - still own

Maybe regret selling the Von Schweikert VR1's as I was trying to improve my Hi-Fi and it turned out most of my issues came from the Cyrus electronics.

Selling them enabled me to try the SA1's and have the current speaker I own so not a total loss.

MP, you are a proper enthusiast and put most of us to shame.

I have to say I couldn't disagree more Cno.  I like Matthew's posts and what he has to say is always worth reading, but this list for speakers alone goes beyond enthusiasm to my understanding.  When you consider the rest - amps, sources and the rest, then it's beyond a hobby I think.

As for me, my speakers collection would be, since 1982:-

Wharfedale Laser 60

Mission 751

Mission 733i

Mission 752

Mission 751 Freedom

Tannoy DC4

Most enjoyable?  All of them, bar the 751 Freedoms.  The current Tannoys are lovely and the original 751 and 752s are still well "up there".

RE: What speakers have you owned?

A pair of 3 way Sony back in the mid 70's can't remember the model

Heybrook HB2 from about '83 (still in Use) blew the Sony's out of the water!

Mordaunt Short Aviano 1 in use on second system

Denon SCM51 in bedroom with Denon Micro system

So not many really over 40 years of listening.

Have I missed out?????

RE: What speakers have you owned?

Not that many in the last 20 years or so. In order from early 90s to date.

Epos ES14.

Sonus Faber Elector

Sonus Faber Electa Amator

Martin Logan CLS-IIIz, REL subwoofers pair, can't remember the name.

Red Rose M3 ribbon hybrid, still have these in storage.

Studiospares/Seiwin SN4s active speakers in current use.

The Epos were outstanding for the price but very square and ugly hence the Fabers. The Electa Amator were wonderful and I wish I hadn't sold them. The Logans I had for a short period when I had a dedicated room, fantastic on small scale material but not so good on the big stuff. The REL subwoofers (Stadia?) were useless, could not enen begin to keep up with the panels. The ribbon hybrids are magical, driven by valves they are wonderful but they are also several hundred miles away in a foriegn land and in storage.

The small actives I use now were bought because they can become my desktop system in due course, not a serious system but they get used nearly every day and I've had them more than a year. Not bad for me........

Don't really change speakers

Don't really change speakers much From mid 90's

Tannoy M1's . Still got but limited ability.

Dali Lektor 2. Liked but with amp change but sold to make way for next pair.

Musical Technology Kestrel. Given as a freebie but a fine match with my amp. May change to go back to bookshelves in near future. Good performers but room layout not ideal.

RE: You sure you want to know

I should add that, mostly, new purchases have been funded by selling previous ones and I'm actually still feeling very settled with the Zensor 3s.  I've been using the Denon amp for a year now, the turntable for nearly two years, and the CD player for about 4 months.  Things are getting much more stable in MP's world of hi-fi.

Rega RP3/Elys 2 - Graham Slee Gram Amp 1 - Rega Apollo R - Exposure 1010 amp - Dynaudio DM2/6 - Chord Co. Chameleon VEE3/Rumour 2 - Musical Fidelity V90-HPA - Sennheiser HD595
