JVC R-S5L

These were purchased circa 1978/79.

Max, how can a system that includes the RX6s and a CD6003 be your first ever hifi? Both models are in their manufacturers current ranges and RX6s are so new that the varnish is probably still hardening on them!.

unless you include various sony walkmans and radio/ stereo cassette players as hifi ?

edit... or unless this is considered hifi? i guess pp is the one to say?

i bought one just like it in tottenham court road in 1995, its still working fine in my bedroom..

Me or the system?

Edit very quickly - when I purchased the JVC receiver from Freemans mail order catalogue (via my dad) in 1978 I was 15. You work it out...

Strange thing is, how things have drastically changed over the past 30 years - JVC, Hitachi etc were kings of two channel amps, Cassette decks, Tuners within their respective price brackets. And, also, the Solavox speakers were ONLY available to purchase in the UK through Comet.

Arcam Alpha 7 CDP

Kenwood KA-3020SE

Boston Acoustic A70.

The Arcam and Kenwood are still used daily by my brother, but now paired with some Mission  7?? from the mid 90s.

The A70s are now back with my step father (after around 12 years use by me), which he kindly 'lent' to me as a 'stop gap', as i couldn't afford speakers at the time...

I remember equipment like that, but just barely!  I would have been 11 years old in 78.  All that kit reminds me of the chunky Marantz stuff I used to think was so cool, and probably very sought after these days?

Did you by any chance own a Garrard SP25 MKV TT with a smoked cover?

I replaced the foam ear pads on my HD414s last week. They still sound really good as a "spare" pair of headphones. Still just as violently yellow Tongue Tied
