Spotify Web Player [BETA]
English

Spotify is currently Beta testing a new web based player, which according to various sources is only available to a select few, or via this facebook link

However i had no trouble getting access by going  https://play.spotify.com/home and logging in with my Spotify account

RE: Spotify Web Player [BETA]

Been using the web player all night, and i think i actually prefer it to the desktop/mobile apps.

Finding the UI much nicer, appears to be muck slicker in use, it loads and plays tracks instantly (always found the desktop a bit laggy in this respect) Given it's use of flash and beta tag i was expecting it to be buggy, but that doesn't appear to be the case, it's been faultless.

Only downside, no offline mode obv.

One thing I'm not right keen on...I've not found an option to stop it posting what you're listening to on F/B. There's an option on the desktop client to disable that.

I don't do FB, and just logged in with my Spotify credentials so not a problem i would have noticed tbh.

Maybe it's something they'll address before official release

I'm missing somehting here. What are the real advantages of a web based player over the instralled bversion:

given you can install to as many devices as you want

you can sync offline (when it works of course)

-> can save highest quallity files so ISP/ d/load speed independant

Doesn't need flash player (phew)

So far, I can't see one plus for me!

To give access to as many people as possible.

To keep up with competitors.

There are times/places that you can't/won't be able to download, install and use a desktop app, on a work or friends computer or an unsupported platform for example.

I know for a fact there will be many happy Linux users.

As development on the Linux Preview has been slow to non existent, is unsupported, and only packaged for debian/ubuntu based distros and is only available to premium users.

to allow people who can not take cameras into work to use spotify.

I might actually pay for spotify when this is launched as i will be able to use it.

Given that rara.com do this for 99p a month for 3 months, isn't Spotify just a little bit late to the party? Even after that, rara only charge £4.99. Nice to have some competition though!

I'd hardly call Spotify late to the party: they were one of the first music-streaming services available in the UK, possibly the first.

Rara don't offer a 'try before you buy' free service either.

Rara have 18 million tracks, the same as Spotify. I guess all streamers are equal, but some are more equal than others.

The news story is incorrect about needing an FB account to use it, BTW.

rdio.com is free for 6 months and £4.99 after that. Even has an app for mobile fans.
