The world wide web: did you know?

YouTube

* As of December 2008, of the 13 million music tracks online just 52,000 tunes (0.4%) accounted for 80 per cent of downloads.

* Around 75 per cent of music available for download has never been bought by anyone. It's just sitting there costing hosts money to be on a server.

* YouTube's hosting costs outstrip revenue: it's estimated bandwidth provision costs for the service are $1m a day and growing!

* The BBC iPlayer uses 60 per cent of the UK's web capacity. And if Lovefilm moved from mail distribution to online, the infrastructure could collapse.
