Jumping Jack's stereo
Hi,
I'm Nick, 30 years old and I live in Belgium (of all places). And this is what I use to listen to music (a lot of jazz, americana, roots, rock, ...):

What you see here:
- Roksan Caspian M2, integrated amplifier (bi-amp, tweeter)
- Roksan Caspian M1, power amplifier (bi-amp, low)
- Squeezebox touch
- North Star Design Essensio Dac
- VPI Scout II with an Audio Technica OC9, mkIII
- Lehmann Audio Black Cube Decade phono-amplifier with seperate power supply
- PMC FB1i Signature Edition
- Wiring consist of Ocos speakercable, a Kimber Hero and a bunch of Harmonic Tech. cabling...
I also have a Caspian M2 cd-player, but that one is for sale right now (check e-bay
).
Thanks!
I think the picture is a bit misleading, the speakers are approximately 2 meters apart. The listening position is about 3 meters...
The speakers are absolutely amazing: very clean and transparant, and with a very nice low-end. They can put you in a smoke-filled nightclub but they can also rock out like Mick Jagger before he should have retired!
Bravoo
Very good description of the FB1i`s ... I bet they sound sweet...
I think your distances are close to perfect. My fronts are 1.4 m apart , and it would be better if that distance is more, but don`t have the room unfortunately. However, their position ( close to the screen ) is good from Home Cinema point of view at least

I'm going to simplify the set by getting a Naim SuperUniti! I auditioned one recently and it's really amazing with the pmc's!
Since friday, a SuperUniti is doing its thing in my livingroom and it's simply amazing! I'm using an IPad 2 with the n-stream app as remote...

A little video of my set-up (shot with a compact camera, so don't expect top-notch sound):
It looks great! And I guess you significant other thinks it's great to have an (almost) all in one setup.
And I always find it funny to see a hifi system with so little electronics. Must be because I'm used to seeing a whole rack stacked with stuff
To make my significant other even happier, I'm considering new speakers...
Any advice on that behalf?
I'm thinking of a nice set of monitor-speakers, e.g. Harbeth 30.1, Kef Reference 201/2, Dynaudio C1, or maybe even the new Kef ls50 (I like their looks and their price-tag!)...
Can`t believe you are going to get rid of those lovely floorstanders :( .... but if that`s the case why don`t you stick with the brand a go for the PMC Twenty - 21 `s ... a fab. speaker by all means
Well, I haven't decided anything yet. I'm just curious how a decent standmound speaker would perform. I would only change the speakers if there's an improvement in a) sound and b) looks.

Well, the 21`s on their dedicated stands would certanly look great in that room of yours...as for the sound ...mmmm I am not sure
I agree, I doubt there's any (audible) improvement in sound there... If I stay with PMC, the Fact.8 would be the way to go I guess...

You have a lovely system, congratulations.
IMO Your next step should be the amp, which will make your existing speakers sound like they've been upgraded. As speakers get ever more expensive, they need an amp of equal talent to make them shine.
So my advice is to try a few more expensive amps in your existing system, before getting new speakers.

OK, but going for the Fact 8 , you`ll be steering way from the very idea of monitors ( standmounts ) , and I thought this is what you`re considering , actually...

Hiya Jumping Jack,
You have a lovely set-up there... The pic. with the speakers- stunning. It looks so clean and neat. I am a big fan of the PMC`s now, but still way out of my league I am afraid
How far is your main listening position ? I`d love to have the room to spread my speakers apart as your ones , but I don`t ... One day perhaps...
