Best Speakers
Err hello, It's me the OP. Don't know why my question got wiped off !!
Q: I recently lost my record collection and player so have joined Spotify premium. I am looking for the best speakers to plug into my laptop (something better than bookshelf speakers) and have up to £150 to spend, not much I know judging by your coversation guys, also do I need an amplifer? Many thanks.
Talk about coming back down to earth with a bump
I saw on a thread somewhere that Sevenoaks are doing the Focal XS (PC/laptop) for £180.

You were saying JJ? You'd be better off on David Ickes site.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!
After reading some of your posts I can honestly say most of you sound like Idiots and probably listen to Jefferson Airplane or Mungo Jerry or some such EDITED. Maybe if you some of you pull your head out from your EDITED you could hear your speakers better! FYI: £300 tops, that all you need.
Thank you and good bye.

I can see why you might think that

Where's jj when you need him?
Look who gave some decent advice - a dual AVI owner!
Obviously a setup, eh?

Welcome to the forum BasilSeven and thank you for starting such an entertaining and slightly surreal thread. You must think that we're a bunch of nutters after reading through that lot.
You can buy very good sound quality for under £300 nowadays. My choice at this price would probably be a Behringer UCA202 DAC/volume controller used together with some Yamaha HS50M speakers which have the amplifiers already built into them.
Total cost £266.

Another good option if you want louder and deeper bass is the Corsair SP2500 2.1 speaker system used together with the same Behringer DAC as above. The Corsair system won't have as good sound quality as the Yamaha speakers but it will have more bass if that's what you prefer.
Total cost £202.

Good to know you have time to drop in: Post a blank post: Insult those who are here to share our interest in a helpful and sometimes humourous manner. Good luck to you in your quest for Utopia.
PS So sad to see basil go.
Well, Basil old fellow! I take it all back. I see your point, but where did you go? £300 and you are indeed good to go. Hope you find something you like.
As for speakers, have a think about some Roland DS7's, which you can try for 14 days at home from Red Dog Music in Edinburgh (great shop, been in a few times and the guys are good. The product itself is discontinued, but several outlets have them discounted and they come with an onboard DAC too. You should find a pair for under your £300 budget.

Slightly implausible to use 'Best Speakers' as a header given the question that supposedly went with it!
