NEWS: iPod Touch now available with 32GB, for £329

Darn it, I knew this would happen. Just two months after I bought my 16GB iPod Touch, Apple has released a 32GB version, writes Andy Clough.

The 32GB model is on sale now in the US for $499, and £329 in the UK.

The original Touch's lack of storage capacity was the main reason we docked it a star when we first tested it in our December 07 issue.

This always seems to happen to me. I held off buying a new iPod for years (my previous one was a 3G model, now described as a 'design icon' by our sister magazine Stuff), and then when I finally summon up the courage (and money) to take the plunge, live to regret it.

A similar thing happened to a colleague of mine: he bought the original 40GB Apple TV, only to see the 160GB version released two weeks later. Infuriating!

I supposed I should have learnt my lesson by now. As a devout 'early adopter', I can't resist the lure of new technology.

Yes, I'm the guy who bought a Betamax video recorder because the technology was better than VHS. Oh, and a MiniDisc player, laserdisc and CDi. All of which now sit in my loft gathering dust. Anyone want to buy them?

It's a dilemma that faces all of us, as frequent postings on our Forums will testify. Technology develops at such a rapid rate that today's hot product will be tomorrow's also-ran.

My two-year old Sony Bravia LCD TV is already beginning to show its age, and I occasionally sneak down to our test rooms to have a longing look at the latest top-of-the-range flatscreen TV, realising its picture is considerably better than that of my 40in Bravia.

Yet I only paid off the HP on the Sony a couple of months ago. Borrowing more money to buy a new replacement is not really an option. Aaargh!

However, I still love my iPod Touch and have recently added new apps such as Google Earth and email, which make it even better.

Guess I'll just have to keep editing my music in iTunes so I don't fill up the 16GB I do have – and look on jealously at those who have 32GB to play with.

Mind you, how soon will it be before we see a 64GB version? I might be writing another letter to Santa before the year's out.
