LG's 2026 OLED TV lineup is closing in fast, and while we're excited to see what the G6, C6, and even the new W6 models have to offer, there are still a handful of top-notch models from 2025 that we're continuing to recommend.

The Korean AV giant enjoyed a very favourable year in our test room, earning five-star reviews for three of its C5 televisions and its G5 flagship OLED TV. It even took home two What Hi-Fi? Awards for the 42- and 55-inch C5, which you'll find on this very list.

I'm What Hi-Fi's Team AV Senior Staff Writer, and I've reviewed countless OLED TVs in my nearly four-year tenure. During that time, I've reviewed, or helped to review, many LG TVs, from the C3, C4 and C5 models to the latest iterations of the showstopping G-series range. I know what makes a good OLED TV, and while LG hasn't always earned the top spot, I do know that the Korean AV giant took back control in 2025 with the exceptional C5, which takes no less than two spots on this list.

+
Excellent contrast and image solidity
+
Uncompromising feature set

Reasons to avoid

-

-
Non-backlit remote is frustrating

We called the 55-inch LG C5 the "best TV for most people in our full review", and that's a statement we stand by. This TV is a real crowd-pleaser, offering an excellent picture and substantial feature set for a price that sits well below its G-series counterpart.

While it may look almost identical to the C4 that it replaces, the C5 offers improved internal specs, including a higher peak brightness and generally improved picture quality.

We complimented its easy and unfussy nature, which allowed us to simply stick the TV into Filmmaker Mode and reap the rewards. And those rewards certainly are worth it, as this TV delivers a richness, detail and contrast in droves.

Every title that we tried on the C5 shone, with punchy yet authentic colours, and three-dimensional depth that rivalled the then-Award winning Sony Bravia 8.

Features-wise, the C5 is a class-leader, offering four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 sockets, all of which support up to 4K/144Hz gameplay. Furthermore, webOS 25 supports a wide range of streaming apps, as well as long list of cloud-based gaming services.

The only area in which we weren't enamoured by the C5 was with its sound performance. The built-in speakers handle dialogue with enough clarity for day-to-day use; however, we wouldn't deem it to be exemplary for heavier cinematic duties. This, of course, can be recitifed by the addition of a Dolby Atmos soundbar.

Overall, the 55-inch (and, by extension the 65-inch C5) is guarenteed to impress.

Reasons to buy

+
Dazzlingly bright image
+
Crisp and colourful picture
+
Excellent feature set for gamers

Reasons to avoid

-
Dull sound

LG's first Primary RGB Tandem OLED TV dazzled, and in many cases, almost blinded us during our testing. The G5 is a seriously impressive TV with a panel and feature-set that leaves you wanting for nothing.

It sports two top-notch LG innovations. The former is LG Display's latest OLED panel technology, which boosts brightness to new levels (by OLED standards) and ensures colours stay rich and vibrant.

That's paired with the existing benefits of OLED, which includes pixel level contrast for deep black depths and superb three-dimensional depth.

The latter is the Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 2, which ensures the webOS 25 operating system runs smoothly and gives users access to a range of AI-backed features. This includes a useful AI chatbot feature, which can adjust picture and sound features based on simple voice commands.

We deemed this TV's panel to be a "technical marvel", as it offered a rich, dazzling and thoroughly engaging cinematic experience. Detail is abundant, and the lighting control that this TV possesses is truly showstopping.

Much like the C5, the G5 handles gaming like a champ, with four full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 sockets, all of which support VRR and ALLM. And cloud gaming is also supported (as is the expected full range of movie and TV streaming apps) via the webOS 25 system.

However, another aspect that's shared between this TV and its step-down counterpart is the underwhelming sound performance. It's a bit thin and dull, and it doesn't grab our attention in the same way the exceptional picture does. Once again, this can be rectified by the inclusion of an external sound system.

Best small LG TV

The best 42-inch OLED TV we’ve tested, despite a relative lack of upgrades

Want that exceptional C5 picture in a smaller package? Need a gaming display that's equally at home on a desk as it is in a living room? The 42-inch C5 proves that small screens don't mean smaller cinematic impact, as this pint-sized OLED is an Award-winning stunner.

It's our recommendation to those looking for a smaller OLED TV, as it packs most of the same features as its larger counterpart, all while taking up much less space. Granted, the display isn't quite as bright, but the quartet of HDMI 2.1 sockets, excellent contrast, and rich colours are all here.

We noted that "skin tones look warm without looking overdone", and that despite the lower peak brightness, highlights still had plenty of impact. Aside from some niggles regarding definition in low-light scenes, the 42-inch C5 remains a solidly cinematic TV despite the smaller screen size.

Much like the other models on this list, it doesn't stack up quite as well when it comes to the sound, which is why we've recommended pairing it with a compact Dolby Atmos soundbar such as the Sonos Beam Gen 2.

Overall, it doens't have much in the way of upgrades of its Award-winning predecessor, and it even looks identical, but it still remains the best small OLED TV on the market.

Also consider

LG OLED48C5: The 48-inch C5 is a great choice for those looking for a middle ground between the Award-winning 42-inch and 55-inch models on this list. Much like its smaller sibling, we approve of its rich, cinematic picture, which still feels engaging and grand in scale, despite the smaller screen size.

LG OLED65C4: Stock is definitely dwindling, but if you can get your hands on one of the few remaining C4 OLEDs, then you'll be rewarded with an excellent TV that performs similarly to the C5 at a lower price. It packs in many of the same gaming features, and it's an excellent performer for film content as well.

How to choose the best LG TV for you

All of the TVs recommended above are LG's own. All are 4K OLEDs that support HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG (but not HDR10+), and all have HDMI 2.1 sockets that support eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel). So how do you choose the one best-suited to your needs?

Bigger is better but size isn't everything. If you're going for a 65-inch or 75-inch model, make sure you have room to sit far enough back to enjoy the full effect.

Love gaming? You'll want to make sure you buy a TV with next-gen gaming features such as VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode).

LG TVs use LG's own colourful 'webOS' operating system. On the surface it looks good and is pretty simple to get to grips with, but if you've been reared on Android TV or Samsung's Tizen system, the menus can take a bit of getting used to.

FAQ

What is the best LG TV for a bedroom?

Unless you’ve got a boudoir the size of a small supermarket, chances are you’re looking for something smaller, so the best choice here would be the OLED42C3. Smaller OLEDs don’t tend to go as bright as their larger siblings, and that’s certainly true of the 42-inch C3, but considering much of your bedroom viewing is likely to be after dark, that shouldn’t be an issue.

What is the best LG TV for gaming?

One of the things that makes LG TVs so easy to recommend is how accommodating they are to gamers. Every TV on our list is extremely well-specced for gaming, with HDMI 2.1 sockets and support for all of the latest gaming features, so no matter which console (or gaming PC) you own you can just choose based on budget and space.

What is the best soundbar for an LG TV?

Pretty much all of our LG TV reviews mention the need to add a soundbar, and while LG produces some soundbars that integrate really neatly with the design of its TVs, in our experience they aren’t the best-sounding ones available. There’s no real need to stick to the same brand and instead just buy the best soundbar you can on your budget.

How we test TVs

The arrival of a new LG TV at What Hi-Fi? HQ is usually a pretty big deal, but each one must go through our usual thorough testing process before we can declare whether it’s worth buying or not.

As soon as a new LG TV enters the building it’s whisked straight to our state-of-the-art testing facilities, where a member of our team will spend many hours assessing every aspect of its performance, from general usability to picture and sound quality. That’s not the end of the judgement process, though, with all verdicts agreed upon by the team as a whole, which helps to eliminate any personal preferences.

Every product we review at What Hi-Fi? is judged on its own merits, but they’re also compared to others in the same category, which allows us to find the very best and make recommendations that you can rely on.

The What Hi-Fi? team has over a century’s experience when it comes to testing and writing about hi-fi and home entertainment technology, so our verdicts are backed by extensive knowledge. They’re also free from the influence of PR representatives or sales staff, so when you pick a product from one of our Best Buy lists you know you’re getting one that comes with the What Hi-Fi? seal of approval.
