tonearm inner cable

Hi all, was replacing my cartridge with a new cartridge when I accidentally broke one of the very fine inner tonearm cables! doh!

I can by another from Hendley Designs for £7.50 but is it easy to install a new on? obviously I will be more careful this time..or do I have to get a specialist to install it?

If it is one tag, mounted within the headshell, then you should be able to replace it easily - with care, and maybe some fine-nosed pliers, ot tweezers.  That's what it sounds like for £7.50.

But if your arm is wired through to the arm base, or even through to the cables that lead to your pre-amp, you will probably need it done professsionally.  Worth asking Henley - is it is Pro-Ject model, perhaps?

It would help to say what arm/TT you are using!  That may be why no-one replied sooner...

Hi, thanks for the reply. It's a pro-ject experience 2- is that hard wired or just simply connectors?

Well, I don't know from memory, but I looked here: http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=xperiencesp&cat=turntables&lang=en

and it says:-

"The internal wiring consists of flexible high-purity copper from the headshell right through to the gold-plated phono sockets."

So, if you do indeed have a Pro-ject 9c tonearm, I'm not sure what you are getting for £7.50, but surely not the whole internal wiring set.  However, I suppose you might still have links from cartridge to within the headshell.  Can you not see if there are tags before the wires disappear up the arm-tube?  If there are tags, then you are OK.

The four little spade-like connectors on the end of the wires at the headshell.

Anything involving internal wiring is going to need to go your dealer (and will almost certainly go back to Pro-ject/Henley to deal with) unless you have expertise in this area.

If not, and Henley cannot help, then try J7 at audio origami (I don't think I'm meant to put a link here, but you'll find them).  They seem to be able to rewire anything.

RE: tonearm inner cable

sorry to hear that - dropped off my turntable to sevenoaks who then sent it to pro-ject, total cost was £50. A costly mistake! not sure if your turntable is hard wired though..?
