Will OLED's image quality decay over time?
Sony, while announcing its Crystal LED (CLED) display, has claimed that OLED technology uses organic materials & will decay fast.
Wikipedia mentions the same thing.

Have Samsung & LG overcome this yet? 5 years is too short a span to consider OLED as a viable option.
Sony.
For consumers perhaps, but i've been sat in front of a Sony PVM 25 inch OLED for the last 2 weeks and it is absolutely stunning, (better than the 24" Sony HD CRT it replaced and that was pretty spectacular).

Yes they do look very good; but if that picture will fade over a few years into mediocrity...
Personally I wouldn't buy a set I knew I'd have to replace in 5 years. Hopefully they can sort it out or at least extend the life, as I agree they do look great.
I have heard that blue doesnt have a good life span, but never thought beyond that. LGs new 55" OLED at CES has white OLEDs with a colour filter. Due out this year it'll be interesting to read owners thoughts in 2013.

Yes and then once again in 2018

Then in 2018 you buy a new set.
Most things aren't built to last now anyway and if you're an early adopter, you're likely willing to buy another within 5 years anyway. Im liking the look of the Sony CLED anyway, hope by the time I want a new set they'll be available at a reasonable price, thinking 2016-17?

I was not aware of this. I thought the only issue with OLED was cost.
Which manufacturer was it recently who siad 'we will not be making OLEDs'?
