My room is 16x12 and i listen to all types of music , but mostly rock /pop music, my budget is 400.00 but i could find the extra if the dalis are that good .
thanks have added some moe imfo .
Q Acoustics 2050i are lovely speakers - very very impressive for that kind of money.
+1 for the Q Acoustics but as omnibeard points out make sure you get the latest 2050i version and not the older plain 2050.
These can be had for £377 from Richersounds or £375 here:-
It seems the 2050i are very much liked even got 5 stars , they have now moved to the top of my list thanks guys.

Have a look at this month Hi Fi Choice, they have what you need...
They have a "Power Tower" group test with:
Boston Acoustics A250
Dali Zensor 5
Mission MX-4
Monitor Audio BX 5
Q Acoustics 2050i
Tannoy Mercury V4
And the winner is...

I dont know if anything has changed but I used to think Rega's original R3 are the only cheap floorstander I would have considered but the new model is substantially more expensive. For £400 I'd be inclined to got the bookshelf way, especially with an amplifier of relatively low power. - If volume is your main consideration a more efficient floorstander will probably do the job but you will more likely than not sacrifice in other areas.
This blonde is not dumb ...

My first ones cost £399 new. Rega R3s original price at launch was £487 and that was around 2005. So they were never exactly 'cheap'.
My second (and current) pair were £220 (used, mint, boxed, maple finish) about 18 months ago.
Rega RS3s are £778 now. Given the improvements (and the seven years that have elapsed since the R3s were first made) that's not too bad.
Rega tend to set a price at launch and stick to it over the years of the product's life. So RS3s are better value now than when they were originally launched a few years ago.

Hi drummerman,
Agree that R3's are very good but OP would have to find a second-hand pair for her budget. Otherwise I think the clue is in 'i want floor standing speakers , and have narrowed it down to these choices'
Going the standmount route is probably only going to confuse a 'dumb-blonde'
you said it, i would consider stand mounts as long as i get good bass and a clear treble , and yes the other blonde is not dumb and yes is pretty
If you can stand the colours then the RS3 might be doable just about on budget: http://www.moorgateacoustics.co.uk/used-and-x-demo-equipment/rega-rs3-sp...

That's where I got my RS1's from in a lovely gloss red for £299
Great guys to deal with too.
Some Rega R3's for around £250 would be an excelent choice.

All the models you mention are good. Is there any possibility you can demo any of them at a local dealer? If not, I like the Dali's, very nearly got them myself (foiled by a stock problem) and that is a very good price for them - however it might be useful to know your room size and some music preferences?
