Connection between CD/DAC to pre amp

help, I`m sinking

Hi 

My Unison Research Unico CD has both XLR and RCA outputs, and I have connected it to my pre amp with XLR cables, which gives the best sound. However, this means, that there is no sound from the tape output, which I would like to use to feed my headphne amp. I could solve this, if I also make a RCA connection between the CD and the pre amp.

The question is - is it safe to connect the two devices with 2 cables at the same time ?
