What Hi-Fi? Verdict

It might not be the best under £50, but the Philex Thor is a gutsy, solid and well built HDMI cable

Pros

  • + Good build
  • + well balanced
  • + gutsy

Cons

  • - Not the best below £50
  • - businesslike looks

So, here's a new flat HDMI at a modest price, sporting all the requisite badges (it's claimed to be HDMI version 1.3c certified) and built to a satisfactory standard, complete with a disconcertingly rubbery outer shroud that's nothing if not businesslike.

That's the Thor Flat HDMI for you – and what's not to like? Simply put, not a lot: this is a gutsy cable, its balance adding useful heft over some near priced peers, and its picture boasting a zesty snap and vitality that more than justifies its price.

It's not the best below £50, though, so it' gets four stars.
