DIY Speakers - Bass extenders
Old speakers:
These are built from a Wilmslow Audio Pheonix Kit (Scanspeak drivers)
New speakers:
Pheonix on top of bespoke DIY Bass Cabinet (New 3 way cross-overs with 10" Volt Drivers).
Really pleased - great stuff from the Boys at Wilmslow Audio.
Much more controlled deep bass, smoother mid range, awesome effortless dynamics. I strongley recommend self build as the best bang for buck.

Do you need any isolation between the bottom and top cabinets, and what is the frequency response of this new set up?
Having put the effort in, makes it all the more enjoyable.

Thanks to all for the complements. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures taken during construction - maybe next time!
CNo - I have fitted rubber feet to isolate the bass enclosure (46 litres) from the mid/treble enclosure (19 litres). According to the published data for the tweeter (Scanspeak D2905/9500.00) and woofer (Volt B250 8.) the frequency response is from 24Hz to 30kHz (I assume at -3dB). Midrange is a Scanspeak 18W 8545.00.
Size matters, bigger is better...

How would you describe them, what other speaker brand do they most sound like, and how much would you have to spend to match them?
Sorry for the questions, but it is very interesting.
Cno - A difficult question to answer as I am not that familiar with lots of different speakers. The original Pheonix standmounters blew my Spendor A5's away in terms of detail, smoother top end and accurate bass. The addition of the bass extenders and new cross-overs has produced an even bigger jump in SQ. IMHO and not looking for an argument I would need speakers at least in the £3K region, twice the cost of this self build.
