NEWS: Now PMC runs its 'i' over the EB1s

PMC's EB1 speakers are the latest model to get the company's 'i' treatment.
The big floorstanders, which sell for £5950 a pair, were unleashed in EB1i form at last weekend's Sound & Vision show in Bristol.
The new version uses the same Sonolex tweeter found in the smaller speakers in the range, the 27mm design giving better high frequency detail, improved power handling and a broader off-axis response.
The midband is handled by one of PMC's 7.5cm fabric soft-dome midrange units, and the bass by a 25cm PMC carbon fibre/Nomex piston driver, giving the speaker bass extension down to 19Hz.
The drivers are 'held together' by a 31-element crossover, also revised for this new version, while the cabinets now use a better Medite material with stronger jointing, finished with a range of real wood veneers and deep lacquer.
The EB1is aren't for the faint-hearted: they stand 122.5cm tall in their spiked feet, and weigh 48kg apiece.

If I had the room would be my only choice, nice one!
That makes two of us, then...
I heard the EB1's and the OB1's at the show. I'm sure at high SPL's the EB1's come into their own but to me the OB1's had a much tighter more focused sound, they're on my shortlist.
I thought these sounded fabulous - very musical. In fact I thought all of the speakers they demoed sounded great.
Did you notice that the PMC assistants appeared to be the only ones actually moving around to the music.
What is it with you people and PMC, buy the original pro speaker manufacturer ATC. Billy woodman invented the 75mm softdome in 1976 and no-one has come close since. The EB1's are £2800 more expensive than the OB1's. For what? A larger bass driver and cabinet. What a rip-off!
That plus elevated treble on waterfall plot giving anything but flat frequency response, how can they charge almost six thousand pounds?
PS - the midrange is bought in from scandinavian company Morel - not a PMC unit. The PMC unit is reserved for the IB2 and above. Though even that isn't as good as the super linear unit on my ATC scm 40's at £2000
The PMC also uses a 3m T line. 3m/340ms-1 is 0.0089 seconds, it's been proven that most people will hear this short time difference causing smearing of the leading edge notes.
