Sky launches online subscription TV service for PC and Mac users

The new service, called Sky Player TV, is launched today. It will initially offer channels from Sky, including Sky Sports and Sky News, as well as other leading channels such as Disney, National Geographic and British Eurosport. Further channels will be added in the New Year.

To access Sky Player TV, non-Sky TV customers will have to pay a monthly subscription for the Base Entertainment Pack, which is available at a special introductory price of £7.50 until January 1st, when it will rise to £15.

Customers who also wish to view a single Sky Sports channel will have to pay £22/month until January, then £26. And if you want to view two Sky Sports channels, the cost rises to £30 and then £34 from January.

Griff Parry, director of on-demand at BSkyB, says: "We believe in giving customers the control and flexibility to access the best in live entertainment and on-demand content. Sky Player TV gives customers access to up to nine different live channels from today, with more coming in the New Year."

Later this month MTV One, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr will be added to the Base Entertainment Pack.

Addiitional sports channels available on the service are Sky Sports Xtra and Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3.

All existing Sky TV customers will continue to have access to Sky Player's on-demand conmtent in line with the channels they are able to access through their core Sky TV subscription.

Today's launch sees a number of other improvements to the service, including Mac compatibility for live streaming and some on-demand content.
