TCL has announced pricing and availability for its flagship TV model for the US, the QM8K.

Replacing its QM851G model, the new QD-Mini LED TV offers the company’s own CrystGlow WHVA Panel with ZeroBorder which is a fresh addition for the brand.

This panel design has an anti-reflective coating to reduce screen glare along with an ultra-wide viewing angle that TCL claims “virtually eliminates colour shift, with a 40 per cent wider colour viewing angle than its predecessor”.

The new TV also includes TCL’s Halo Control System, which the company says produces “enhanced colour accuracy, enhanced grey scale accuracy, as well as virtually no blooming”.

It has a bezel width of 3 to 4mm, and sports a “one-piece aerospace-grade aluminium alloy mould”. TCL adds that the QM8K has upgraded processing compared to its predecessor, with Zero-Delay Transient Response for “virtually no lag between the input signal and backlight response”.

For sound, the new flagship uses audio by Bang & Olufsen, with up-firing drivers in the TV to deliver Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X sound.

The QM8K will be available in the US in 65- to 98-inch screen sizes, with the 65- and 85-inch models available now, and the 75- and 98-inch models coming next month.

In terms of pricing, the 65-inch is available for $2300, the 75-inch for $3000, and the 85-inch for $3800. The largest of the bunch, the 98-inch, will set you back $6500.

We are yet to see the QM8K in action, but our senior staff writer Lewis Empson did get to see the UK equivalent model, the TCL C8K, during a hands-on session. While these two models are not entirely identical, they both share the CrystGlow WHVA panel technology and support Dolby Atmos.

From first impressions, we were impressed by the 75-inch model's "super-bright and punchy image", although we did notice that blooming could be an issue. If this is anything to go by for the QM8K, though, this TV could well be one to watch.
