A guide to the new website

How can I see all the latest reviews?

Click on the Products tab in the main red navigation bar at the top of every page and it will take you to the Reviews landing page here:

https://www.whathifi.com/products

Alternatively, if you hold your cursor over the Products tab, a dropdown box will appear showing the top eight product categories, latest retail offers and the three latest reviews. Click on one of the product category links and it will take you to the landing page for that category, such as Hi-Fi, with the most recent reviews displaying first:

https://www.whathifi.com/products/hi-fi

How can I see all the latest news?

Click on the News tab in the main red navigation bar at the top of every page and it will take you to the News landing page here:

https://www.whathifi.com/news

Alternatively, you can hover over the News tab and a dropdown box will appear showing the five most recent news stories and three most recent videos. Click on any of these and it will take you directly to the relevant page.

How does search work?

There are several ways you can use search on the new site. If you're looking for a specific product, just type the brand name and model name/number into the big 'search for a product' box on the Homepage or the smaller search box top right.

Wait for the auto-suggest list to appear as a dropdown and select the model you want. For example, if you're searching for the Sony KDL-46HX853 TV type it in the box and it will appear in the list. Click on the link and it will take you straight to the review.

Alternatively, if you just type in the brand name – in this case Sony – you will then be able to search for Sony products in each product category in which they exist, such as Sony in Blu-ray players which will take you to this page:

https://www.whathifi.com/products/sony/home-cinema?f[0]=subcategory_seo_url%3Ablu-ray-players

How can I refine my search criteria by using the search filters?

Go to the product category you want either by clicking on the relevant icon under the search bar at the top of the Homepage (eg Home Cinema) or hover over the Products tab in the red nav bar and then select the category from the dropdown menu. In this example, it will take you to the Home Cinema landing page:

https://www.whathifi.com/products/home-cinema

You will see the standard filters on the left-hand side. The 'Tested At' price is the RRP at the time of the review, the 'Latest Offers' links to the actual current prices through our retail partners (which may be less than the Tested At price, so handy if you're looking for a good deal).

Click on 'Product Types' to select the sub-category you require (ie Home Cinema Amplifiers) and it will take you to that page:

https://www.whathifi.com/products/home-cinema/home-cinema-amplifiers

You will then see a list of additional filters down the left-hand side, so you can select the ones you want.

What if the product category I want isn't in the Products/Categories dropdown menu?

On the Homepage, you will see a list of icons underneath the 'search for a product' box. The last one on the right is called 'All Categories'. Click on this and it will take you to this page with a full list of product categories featured on the site:

https://www.whathifi.com/best-buys

From there, you can select any category you want just by clicking on the relevant link.

How do I start a new thread on the Forums?

Click the Forums link on the red nav bar at the top of any page. This will take you to the Forums landing page:

https://www.whathifi.com/

Then scan down the list of Forum categories and click on the blue link for the one you want to start the thread in (ie Hi-Fi). This will take you to a page like this, where you will see a blue +New Topic button:

https://www.whathifi.com/s/hi-fi

Click the +New topic button and a Create Forum Topic page will appear:

https://www.whathifi.com/node/add/forum/71

To do the same on your mobile device, click on the three horizontal lines in the top right-hand corner of the screen to display the menu, select Forums, then the category you want and the +New Topic button will appear.

Can I submit a user review on a product I own?

Yes you can. One of the extra features we've added to the new site is the option for you to write user reviews of the kit you own. You will need to be registered and logged in to do so. We will be awarding special badges for our Top Contributors and the best writers will be designated Approved User Reviewers. Full instructions on how to submit a user review are given here:
