In-ear headphones

SoundMagic E10

Five stars

Tested at £35

If it's in-ear headphones you're after this year, then the SoundMagic E10s should definitely appear near the top of your Christmas present list – there's a reason they've won the best in-ear Award for the past three years. With incredibly detailed sound at an impressively low price, they're a fantastic headphone upgrade.

On-ear headphones

AKG K451

Tested at £130 (now available for around £50)

Five stars

Latest Prices

The AKG K451s have won our headphones  Product of the Year gong for the past two years, and should have a space reserved under the Christmas tree.

They provide incredible sound, look good, and are built to last. The fact you can pick a pair up for around £50 is the fairy on the top.

MP3 player

Apple iPod Shuffle

Tested at £40

Five stars

If you're after a cheap, versatile and easy-to-use MP3 player, then the Shuffle is the one for you. Sound quality is just about on a par with other iPods, and the improved Apple buds are bundled in too. Or there's always the SoundMagics...

Digital radio

Aves Air

More after the break

Tested at £50

Four stars

An intuitive and great-sounding portable DAB radio. The Aves Air gives users a warm sound with decent bass. You'll almost certainly need to upgrade the headphones, though, as the ones supplied aren't great.

Digital TV box

Now TV Box

Five Stars

Tested at £10

"Digital TV box" is somewhat underselling it, but whatever you call it, we're still wondering how Sky can release a device like the Now TV Box for such a low price.

Providing access to the likes of BBC iPlayer and Spotify, as well as Sky's own Movies and Sports services on a pay-as-you-go basis, it's a bargain for a tenner – and a perfect Christmas gift for any old TV.

Analogue Interconnect

Atlas Element Integra

Five Stars

Tested at £45

Cables? Glamorous they ain't, but you can't build a decent system without them. If you want to hear your hi-fi system at its best, then this award-winning analogue interconnect will help you on your way. The Atlas Element Integra is a solid upgrade.

Remote Control

One For All 2-in-1

Tested at £15

Five Stars

Universal remote controls may have fallen out of favour a touch but for getting to grips with a range of products from just one zapper, there's no competition.

Capable of operating your TV and set-top box, this One For All is an accomplished performer which is incredibly easy to use. And cheap!
