I am looking for a cost effective way to use my iPod as a source for my hifi. I would like it to sound half decent and one of my options is to buy an iPod dock and feed the digital output into my old Arcam Black Box. I presume that will work but will it sound better than iPod analogue straight into my amplifier? The Black Box is very old but was well respected at the time.

Yes, but rather than a standard iPod dock that just takes the analogue output from the iPod, you'll need a dock like the Onkyo ND-S1 which is really a digital transport that will allow you to take the digital signal from your iPod to the DAC of your choice.
