Columbia LP
The LP's 60th birthday – and the small matter of the launch of a brand-new website

It's 60 years this weekend since Columbia Records announced the first-ever LP – but then, as now, there were format wars.

Records were different sizes - 10in or 12in – and ran at different speeds, and it was a good while before agreement was reached between the companies on what equalisation settings should be used.

There's nothing new, is there?

Meanwhile we've been doing a launch of our own, in the form of the brand-new website at which you are now gawping. Other highlights this week have included..

- Exclusive online tests of the Panasonic DMP-BD50 Blu-ray Disc player, the Vita Audio R4 all-in-one system and more:- News that 007 is definitely coming to Blu-ray- Sky HD for less- And new home cinema speakers from B&W
