Best Bluray discs
English

I love Avatar, have seen it 20/30 times now, and every time I want to see a display of good imaging and sound the Avatar disc goes into the bluray.

Harry Poter, Pirates of the Caribbien, episode I II and III of Star Wars, all the Pixar/Disney and Dreamworks cartoons are very nice discs as well.

What I want to know is what is/are your favourit discs that get the best of your AV system?

RE: Best Bluray discs

I've not enjoyed Tron's soundtrack as I've found it lumpy.

Thanks

the quality of the soundtrack might be personal, but the audio quality is very good.

Just thought of another, which is quite overlooked.  Probably because the film is quite niche.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.

It has power and subtlety in spades.

Its anything but lumpy I think - good test of bass setup / integration.

The JL Audios shouldnt be sounding lumpy Rick mate Smile - lot of pulsing bass, desogned to throb you - bike scene, amazing bass effects sound like there is actually ship above you when he first goes into the Grid - just from 5.1 no speakers up high for me.

I need to test this out on my new processor.

RE: Best Bluray discs

For me it would be:

Saving Private Ryan

Watchmen

The whole of the James Bond Box set but mainly the early 60s and 70s ones.

Definitely the Pixar films.

Man of Steel

The Shining. The opening sequence was breath taking for a film it's age. Awesome film too.

The Pianist

All Quiet On The Western Front (1930 version)

Das Boot

Sleeping Beauty (Disney)

Cassablanca

Empire Of The Sun

The Evil Dead (awesome for a film shot on 16mm

Hi-Fi: Campridge audio D500 SE, DACMagic 1, C500, P500.. Monitor Audio BR1 speakers.

H-T: Pioneer; Kuro LX5090, BDP LX71, SC LX73. CA P500. SKY+HD. Rel Q50. Mordaunt Short Avant.

RE: Best Bluray discs

I found the Dr No (1972) blu ray to be absolutely stunning picture quality considering it's age. I was so blown away the first time I saw it, it's quickly become one of my reference discs. I found the Star Wars films to be a mixed bag with too much DNR causing waxy faces and also an issue with some colours looking washed out. I did enjoy the detail though.

Having said that, some critisise the UK paramount release of Zulu, but I didn't find it nothing of the sort. It's great for pq saw the sound isn't as good as the newer american release but that gets some stick for the red of the uniforms on the British soldiers looking off orange!

Valkyrie is probably my favourite "native" high def Blu-ray Disc.

Both the Kill Bill films are often overlooked, but have great picture and magnificent sound quality.
