NEWS: KEF builds up its Picoforte range

This is the £400 Picoforte Three, the latest model in KEF's new iPod-friendly line-up. It combines the dock and amplifier seen in the Picoforte One system with a pair of the company's familiar ovoid speakers, as used in the KHT3005 systems, to give a bigger sound and better bass.

The speakers use one of KEF's Uni-Q driver designs, with a 19mm tweeter set at the centre of an 11.5cm mid/bass unit, in an all-metal cabinet weighing 3kg apiece. A rear-venting port further enhances bass response.

The iPod dock and the 50w digital amplifier module are each milled from solid aluminium, and have a 3.5mm input jack for other digital players or a computer, and an S-video output to feed iPod menus to a screen.

The system is available in gloss black or white, and comes with a credit-card style remote control and all cables needed to hook it up. It'll be reviewed in our November issue, out on 20th September.
