Elvis hits the road to fame, 42 years of The Monkees and your last chance to vote for our Readers Award

It's September 12th, and 60 years ago today Elvis Aaron Presley, then  just 13, moved with his family from Tupelo to Memphis, where he would be discovered and become rather well-known. A life-size statue of Elvis at that age stands in Tupelo,  depicting him walking with his guitar.

In other music events, 42 years ago today The Monkees TV show made its debut, featuring America's answer to The Beatles, and it's five years since The Man in Black, Johnny Cash, died aged 71.

Meanwhile here in whathifiland it's only a week until our November issue goes on sale, and in just five weeks  the 2008 What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision Awards issue hits the shops.
