Merlin Bach Mk IV review

Now on its fourth incarnation, Merlin's Bach interconnect is still a great cable but lacks a touch of dynamism when needed Tested at £60

Our Verdict

A great cable that needs a touch of pep to really shine

For

Against

  • Lacks a touch of flair

What Hi-Fi? Verdict

A great cable that needs a touch of pep to really shine

Pros

  • + Wide, rich and subtle sound

Cons

  • - Lacks a touch of flair

Offering up a wide sound packed with insight and subtlety, the Bach has a rich, almost lugubrious feel that makes music seem effortless.

Cohesion is good, while the treble and midrange work nicely hand in hand, and production subtleties are picked out and not glossed over.

When it comes to dynamics, the Bach needs a touch of flair to its presentation to make it truly complete, but those with a lively sounding set-up costing around £500 a unit will find it ideal.
