Around this time of year, every year, we at What Hi-Fi? spend weeks testing and discussing the best products of the last twelve months, from the smallest in-ear headphones to the biggest 4K TVs, from state-of-the-art high-end hi-fi to the latest home cinema components.
Every year we're sent new products under strict embargo for Awards consideration, and we're tasked with whittling down all the products to a (long) list of winners across all the categories we cover.
Every Awards contender – be it a new product submitted during the judging process or an existing class-leader – is tested against its peers, before the winners are revealed. There are Best Buy winners by price across every category (e.g. 'Best wireless speaker under £200'), and then an overall winner, the Product of the Year, in each category.
The 2018 Best Buys will be revealed on What Hi-Fi? on Monday 8th October. The Products of the Year will then be announced a month later at the annual What Hi-Fi? Awards ceremony, and simultaneously online, on the evening of Wednesday 7th November. The special What Hi-Fi? Awards issue of the magazine will go on sale the next day, Thursday 8th November 2018.
The 2017 Awards saw 104 winners across 25 categories, including Sony’s first 4K HDR OLED TV, the KD-65A1; KEF’s LS50 Wireless all-in-one system; and the Rega RP3/Elys2 turntable, which picked up its seventh consecutive What Hi-Fi? Award.
More after the break
And what about this year? Well, that would be telling. But you can expect brand-new 4K TVs, umpteen turntables and a sea of stereo speakers for every budget, plus lots, lots more. No, we can’t wait either.
