MUNICH SHOW: Neat adds SX appeal to its Elite speakers

Neat Elite SX

The SX design uses an innovative staggered port system to tune the output from the 16.5cm doped paper cone mid/bass unit, which is derived from the driver used in the company's Ultimatum range.

A 32mm diameter port in the rear of the cabinet is tuned to 40Hz, and operates over a narrow bad, while an additional 50mm port venting to the bottom to the enclosure is tuner higher and works over a wider band.

Neat says this means the speaker "delivers a very convincing full-bodied bass performance, far more impressive than might be expected for an enclosure of these dimensions.

"The cabinet stands above a solid, heavy slate plinth by means of 20mm aluminium spacers. This allows the port to breathe correctly and fixes the distance from the lower port to the plinth at the optimum height."

A fixed aluminium phase plug aids integration with the new 25mm soft fabric dome tweeter, which is linked to the mid/bass driver using a simple three-element crossover.

The speakers, which have 89dB/W/m sensitivity, 8ohm nominal impedance and are designed for use with amps from 25W to 200W, stand 90cm tall. They'll be available in a choice of six high-quality finishes.
