The Gemini II is one of four subwoofers manufactured in the UK by BK Electronics.

The company has previously been involved in disco amplifiers and cinema systems, so it knows a thing or two about filling a room.

From the looks of this subwoofer, the company also knows how to make a black cuboid look rather smart.

There are high- and low-level inputs and a choice of seven finishes. The black, silver, light oak and cherry finishes retail at £200, it's £215 for rosewood or walnut, and £220 for gloss black.

You'll find a downward-firing 10in driver inside the box, complete with a polypropylene cone, and a sealed cabinet.

Compact but loud
The sub boasts a display panel and plenty of controls, including independent filtering on both the high and low level inputs.

The good news is it sounds the part, too, going nice and loud and delivering decent depth and weight considering the knockdown price tag.

Enjoying the workout that Tropic Thunder delivers to both subwoofer and our stomach muscles, explosions have the necessary thud and it's only a little extra definition that seems to be missing.

Switch to some music and this slight lack of focus becomes more apparent. Nevertheless, this BK Gemini II is a fine option if your budget is tight.
