Soundcast unveils 'Junior' version of its OutCast wireless audio system

Soundcast 'Junior' OutCast

Retailing at £400, the 'Junior' OutCast can transmit multidirectional sound wirelessly (in the 2.4GHz band) from an iPod, PC or other music device placed up to 100 metres away.

The system consists of a 60W digital amplifier, downward-firing 6.5in woofer and four omni-directional drivers designed to create 360 degree sound.

It's 49.5cm high, has a top diameter of 25.4cm and bottom diameter of 26.7cm, and weighs 7.45kg.

The plug-and-play kit includes a rechargeable 12V NiMh battery giving up to nine hours of playback, an external charging kit, 240V power cord and a 12V car adapter.

However, the OutCast Junior is sold without a wireless transmitter which has to be bought separately.

Users can purchase either the company's iCast transmitter (£75), which supports Apple iPods and iPhones and line-level inputs from other audio sources, or the Universal Audiocast Transmitter (£95), which supports a USB connection to a PC or Mac and also has a line-level jack for connecting other devices.

Transmitter kits include various cable combinations from 3.5mm minijacks through to RCA connectors.

Each transmitter can send an audio signal to two OutCast speakers or OutCast Juniors. The Junior model also has a new feature that enables it to be designated as the left or right channel in a two-speaker set-up, so a true stereo soundstage can be created.

The Soundcast OutCast and OutCast Junior are distributed in the UK by Armour Home Electronics.
