Emilia Romagna Grand Prix schedule 2024

  • Grand Prix – Sunday, 19th May | 2pm BST / 9am ET

Emilia Romagna Grand Prix: preview

Not since that title decider three years ago has an F1 race generated this much excitement. Much was expected of the upgrades that McLaren and Ferrari had planned for Imola, and both teams have delivered. For the first time since his F1 reign began, Max Verstappen has serious competition. The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 2pm BST / 9am ET today.

The reigning champion may be on pole, but boy did he have to earn it. He needed to be perfect and he was, but even so, both McLaren drivers were within a tenth of him. Oscar Piastri was just 0.074 seconds off the pace, with Lando Norris a further 0.017 seconds behind, however, the young Aussie will start from 5th, having been handed a grid penalty.

And it wasn’t just three drivers pushing for pole. Charles Leclerc missed out by 0.224 seconds, though his teammate Carlos Sainz would have been disappointed not to break the 1:14 mark. In the space of a few weeks, the F1 season may have gone from Red Bull procession to legitimate three-horse race, and the fun is about to begin.
