Significant anniversaries for May 9th? Well, it's 148 years since the birth of JM Barrie, who created Peter Pan.

And Dante Alighieri, the original firestarter and founder member of The Divine Comedy, would be 743 today if he were still alive. Which of course he isn't.

It's also 121 years since Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show opened in London at Earl's Court, slightly before it was home to the Ideal Home Exhibition.

Queen Victoria liked the show so much she went several times – but may have become bored when she discovered the buffalo was not a moose.
