It's safe to say there's no danger of Cupid being let loose at the Silver Arrows. Antonelli finished ninth on his first appearance at the Temple of Speed a year ago, and how the 20-year-old Italian would have loved a crack at victory on home soil this weekend. Wolff, however, doesn't do romance, and instead believes that sacrificing this race will help to sustain Antonelli's title charge.
He's 59 points clear of both Hamilton and George Russell, who are tied on 183 points apiece. Having won two GPs in a row, Lando Norris has closed the deficit to that pair to 24 points, overtaking Charles Leclerc in the process.
Leclerc has won the Italian Grand Prix twice (2024, 2019) in the colours of Ferrari, prompting extraordinary scenes in the pitlane and grandstands on both occasions. Hamilton, a five-time winner of this race (2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2012), finished sixth on his first visit to the track as a Ferrari driver. If there's one race he'd like to win above any other, it's this – he'll become the first British driver to win the race for the Scuderia since John Surtees in 1964 if he does.
