NEWS: ALFiE indulges in some personal entertainment

This is ALFiE, a new all-in-one home home entertainment hub on the way from Roth Audio. It'll sell for around £400 when it's launched next month, and is said to be "about more than looks: sure it’s (extremely) easy on the eye, but [it’s] also a complete home entertainment system in a single, sexy tabletop-friendly chassis."

So what's it all about? Well, as well as being an iPod dock, the ALFiE also has a rear socket to allow other portable players to be connected. There's a built-in slot-loading CD/DVD player, along with onboard 2.1-channel amplification and speakers, including a downward-firing subwoofer, to deliver what's said to be a room-filling sound.

Bass and treble adjustments are provided, and there's also an FM/AM radio tuner and alarm built-in, with dual alarms to allow you to make your escape before the husband comes home from night shift. Add in touch-sensitive operation and remote control, and it's clearly as well-suited to the bedroom as the front room - very ALFiE, in fact...
