CES 2009: Sony's X-Series touchscreen Walkman, Blu-ray systems and more

Sony X-Series Walkman

First up is the drastically changed Walkman X Series (pictured), offering an iPhone-style screen, smooth black finish and web browsing capability. Available in 16GB or 32GB sizes, the slick unit is clearly aiming at taking on the iPod Touch.

Sony's latest Blu-ray home cinema package will be called the BDV-IT1000 and feature super-slim speakers about the width of a finger. It can stream audio and is BD Live ready. The BDV-IT1000 is expected to cost £2000 and will be reviewed in the next issue of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision.

Sony is also moving back into the world of making speakers with the Sountina, a distinctive single column with a beam of light which offers '360 degree' sound, first unveiled as a prototype at IFA this year.

The company confirmed that it will be sold at retail this year. Using vertical drive technology, the Sountina also features glass and leather. More news on this as we get it.

For home cinema fans, there's a new flagship 7.1 multichannel amplifier in the shape of the STR-DA5400ES.

Finally, Sony also revealed a new range of XB headphones, designed for extra bass at home via the giant XB700s, or on the go via the XB40s. Both pairs share black and silver design and the XB40s match the new Walkman.

We're on the CES floor right now, so check back for updates on all the above and more.
