Elgato Turbo.264 HD
$50 download allows editing and conversion of clips, can handle almost any kind of video file

New from Elgato, best-known for its EyeTV and EyeConnect products, is a software converter allowing Mac users to edit and transfer camcorder footage and home video for viewing on iPhones and iPads.

It's a software edition of the company's Turbo.264 HD solution, sells for $49.95 (or about £35), and will accept just about any video file format – even those not native to the Mac – and output them in a range of formats suitable for portable or online use.

Pre-installed formats handle output for iPhone, iPad, YouTube and many other requirements, and the software will automatically detect HD camcorders connected to the computer and allow editing of clips before conversion. Information can also be added to simplify the organisation of large libraries of files.

The software is available for download from the Elgato Online Store, with a free trial version available here.

There's also a hardware accelerated version, using a USB add-on, for $99.95 (£65).Follow whathifi.com on Twitter
