Thanks for your reply - much appreciated. It's all the time from all sources. I've just got the TV connected to YouView via HDMI and TV connected to Klipsch via 3.5m jack. TV ariel from YouView to wall socket. DVD player connected to TV via Scart. It's only since adding YouView that I've had the problem.
And if you unplug the YouView box, does the sound return to normal?
Yes - it returns to normal when not plugged into YouView box. I've just read that you can connect a surround sound system to YouView via HDMI OR optical in.
As my Klipsch hasn't got optical port, would it work if I got a 3.5mm to optical-in adapter and connected it this way?? Also, can you have sound coming through the TV and Klipsch at same time, or will it turn the TV volume off? Ideally I need it coming through both.
It's odd - I can only assume it's something to do with the connection of the HDMI port which is causing the TV to turn down the volume, but it's not something I'm aware of. Might be worth a call into your TV manufacturer to see why the volume output is reduced when you connect something into the HDMI port.
You can't connect the Humax to the Klipsh via the optical port, but you could connect it via the analogue outputs (the red and white ports on the back) - you'd just need an RCA phono to 3.5mm lead to do this. If you connected this way, you'd only get sound from the Humax through the Klipsch though (i.e. not the DVD player).
This may be a dumb question, but is volume turned down somewhere? e.g. Youview box, TV 3.5mm output, etc.
Hi Professorhat. Thanks for that. I've just found a very short phono to 3.5mm that I had knocking around and that works fine, so I've just bought a QED one online for a tenner which should be more than adequate for my purposes.
No - volume isn't turned down anywhere.
My HDR-Fox T2 remote handset is no problem so I doubt a future one would be. (No glass AV cabinets here.)
Guarantee not an issue (I always buy from our local John Lewis).
I very much like the idea of an iPhone app that I can use to set up recordings remotely! Thanks for pointing that out.
I will need to establish for myself (standing there with the machine in use) whether Samsung Smart TVs and Humax Youview PVRs really do have ITV Player and 4oD as advertised. (I have been 'burnt' previously by both Panasonic UK and Sony UK telling me - and John Lewis - lies about iPlayer/ITV Player/4oD access on 'Bravia' and 'Viera Connect' just to sell their gear.)
At least Humax have the decency to tell their users nothing rather than tell lies.
